Layout the frame cross member so that you have one on each end of the frame sides. I used three 2x8 s one 2x6 one 2x10 and two 2x2 s. The image at left is a cross section of the bed illustrating this. Rather i used spruce lumber normally used for framing.

An old metal bed frame donated its casters to make it easily movable. Add bed frame rail hardware. I lowered the inside frame so that the mattress sits 1 inch below the top of the 2x6. Each inside corner of the bed frame receives 8 screws to mount the frames to the legs.

The bed rails each have a 2x2 1 5 x1 5 attached to the bottom inside edge on which the slats supporting the mattress rest. I found some super affordable bed frame rail hardware here.
