The amount of weight that will be on the floor is going to be a big factor when determining your joist size and joist spacing.
2x4 vs 2x6 for floor of storage shed.
2x6 construction may allow for the character.
I called the lumber yard and they told me it is common to frame the floor with 2x4 s and use the 2x6 as the floor joist.
But my longest free wood is 12 ft.
And 4 4 skids at 48 inch o c that i have been parking 2 full sized pickups on for the last 5 years and the floor is still sturdy.
I have a 24 20 shed garage floor built with 2 6 s at 16 inch o c.
Have fun with your building.
I have never heard of this and it sounds weird to me.
Skid or concrete blocks 4 2x4 floor 3 5 advantech subfloor 75 8 25 before i even erect walls.
If you had a 12 12 shed with a gable roof that would mean 26 rafters which is a lot.
My current shed is a dirt floor.
I am in the process of building a 10x16 shed with 2x6 floor joists.
Moving to 16 on center you could span your spf 2x4s up to 6 for heavy loads and 9 for light loads which would still work with a 12 12 gable shed.
There was a little bit of spring in the floor when i first laid down the plywood but this was quickly fixed by nailing some 2x4 blocking between the 2x6 s at about the 4 mark.
I could live with that if need be.
I received my lumber package yesterday and noticed the 2x6x16 are missing to frame the floor band joist.
Of a younger home to model and older one.
The answer is that it depends on several factors.
Spacing your 2 4 shed rafters at 24 on center limits the width of your roof.
